From downward dog to doing good – summer yoga in the park supports The Island.

On the 23 June, a sunny Tuesday evening, a special outdoor yoga session was held to support of The Island.

Set in a beautiful park and blessed with glorious summer sun, the session welcomed 20 attendees who came together for an hour of gentle, relaxing yoga. The calm and uplifting atmosphere carried on afterwards, as guests enjoyed a glass of Prosecco or juice alongside a selection of nibbles.

All who attended also showed great generosity on the evening by donating to The Island.

The organiser of this fabulous event, who is also a current volunteer mentor with The Island, spoke about her motivation for hosting the event: “I wanted to do this small fundraiser for The Island Charity because I believe that all children deserve to be heard, supported and valued.”

She continued, “Sometimes, for various reasons out of their or their carers’ control, children can feel overlooked, undervalued or misunderstood. On most occasions, if we can give children some one-to-one time and really get to know them, they will feel valued and appreciated. and this can help them to flourish and realise their potential.”

Reflecting on the charity’s impact, she added, “I think The Island offers a valuable service that is essential for many children.”

The evening raised an amazing £260 to support our work.

We’d like to say a big thank you to the wonderful Emma, not only for fundraising for The Island, but also for being a dedicated volunteer mentor supporting a young person in York.
