Make A Difference this Christmas
The festive season can be a difficult time for the children who use our services here at The Island. During November and December, we offer extra support to those who really need it in order to help them get through the Christmas period.
Support that we offer, include:
- Additional Mentoring Sessions: offering children who struggle with their mental, emotional and social well-being with extra mentoring sessions provides our Volunteer Mentors with the chance to build and maintain their Mentee’s confidence, self-esteem as well as to help them overcome challenges which the Mentee may face during the Christmas season.
- Provide families with Christmas Food Hampers: many of the children who use our services live in households where there is in-work poverty. On Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, The Island team delivers Christmas Food Hampers to York families who are struggling to put food on the table for their children and of course, for themselves.
- Christmas Party: Each year, we work with St. Olave’s School who kindly hosts a Christmas Party for the children who use our services. The Christmas Party provides the children who use our mentoring services with the chance to meet other Mentees and Mentors and is a great opportunity for them to make new friends, develop their social skills as well as build on their confidence and self-esteem. Many group activities take place during the party, which we provide arts and crafts materials for. We find that a Christmas Party brings everyone together and really raises positive feelings amongst our Mentees.
If you would like to make a donation towards our services, please click here , alternatively, if you would like to set up your own fundraiser or would like to provide us with food and drink for our Christmas Food Hampers, then please email enquiries@theislandyork.org.
