Volunteer Counsellor to walk the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise funds for The Island
We're thrilled to announce that Helen Pentelow-Boyle is walking the Yorkshire Three Peaks to raise vital funds for the children who use our services to improve their mental, emotional and social wellbeing.
Helen who is hoping to raise £1000 says "I am excited to be able to give something back to The Island in the form of fundraising. I love walking and the outdoors but have never done anything like this before. The positive relationships that The Island creates helps to raise self-esteem and enhances many young people's lives, which in turn reduces anti-social behaviour and improves our communities."
Helen came across The Island over three years ago when she volunteered with us as a school-based mentor. Her experience of working with children at The Island inspired her journey towards becoming a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist. Now halfway through her training, she rejoined us as a Volunteer Counsellor where she offers the mentees to meet with her to discuss their challenges and supports them in making positive changes to their lives.
Nigel, who is the Manager of the Mentoring Services says "We are all really grateful for Helen's generosity. If she reaches her £1000 target then this would mean that we could guarantee 100 mentoring sessions which will make a huge difference to the children currently accessing our one to one mentoring services."
