In late July, The Lost Boys Taskforce, a coalition of male leaders from football, education, youth work, policy, business, and lived experience, launched their campaign for a Trusted Adult Guarantee – a plan to ensure every single young person in the UK has access to a trusted adult outside of the family home.

The taskforce came together around a shared concern: too many boys in Britain are growing up without the support they need to thrive — isolated, disengaged from school, and vulnerable to toxic online influences. It focuses on ensuring young men, who are more likely than young women to have no one to talk to, have access to a trusted male adult role model through school or sports.

The Island's vision and mission is to meet this need for all young people in York by providing trained, compassionate and committed volunteer mentors from the local community. We go further than the report recommendations, by training mentors from all walks of life, which means that young people who are not able to access trusted adults through their education or connections to sporting activities, can have access to a Trusted Adult.

We support the work of this taskforce, and urge the UK Government to develop and adopt a Trusted Adult Guarantee for all young people in the UK.
