Eight new volunteer mentors got together on Thursday 14 August to complete their mentor training. Led by mentor supervisors Lyndsay and Chloe, the evening was filled with activities, learning and discussion, all to prepare volunteers for becoming a trusted adult for a young person accessing The Island’s services.

Our mentors are ordinary people from the York area, doing an extraordinary thing. This cohort covered ages 25-65, with mentors coming from all different life stages, work-places and neighbourhoods across the city. United by their common interest in giving back to the community by supporting a young person who needs time, space, and a person they can trust to talk to, the volunteers ended the evening inspired and equipped with their training, ready to start their mentoring journey in the autumn.

If you’d like to join the ranks of our volunteers doing something extraordinary to help young people, or just find out more about what it takes, please contact Lyndsay and Chloe on enquires@theislandyork.org.
